Well surprise… surprise… surprise! Except that actually this is exactly what we and pretty much everyone else who was paying any attention expected. CBS and the NFL have officially announced that British rock group Coldplay will be the headline act during 2016’s Super Bowl 50 halftime show.

Congratulations to Coldplay, whose frontman and lead singer, Chris Martin, is “honored and thrilled” by their selection.

On the heels of the band’s Big Game big news comes the release of their seventh studio album, a record titled A Head Full of Dreamsthat has received overall positive reviews. Kudos on that, too, fellas.

Chris Martin

Conspicuously absent from the announcement that Coldplay will play during the 2016 Super Bowl was any information about other acts or artists who will join them on the stage. Super Bowl halftime shows are known for the collaboration, so it’s a sure thing that someone will sidle up beside the band. Our long-shot guess? Beyoncé. Why? Because she appears on their just-released album, and because… hey, Beyoncé, why not? People like her music or her kid’s name or something, right?
